STROMBOLI: “La Rotonda” is 12.6 square km large. Situated to the north-east of the Aeolian group, Stromboli is geologically the youngest island. The island of volcanic origin has been constantly erupting for over two thousand years, with its large volcanic cone protruding out against the blue Mediterranean sea, illuminating sunsets and night skies with its magical eruptions.
Roberto Rossellini and Ingrid Bergman made to the island famous after shooting the romantic film "Stromboli" on the island. The small, characteristic lanes, whitewashed houses leading to the church of San Vincenzo, contrasting the greenery and aspect of the black sand, have made Stromboli unique and attracted visitors from all over the world.
The "Sciara del fuoco” meaning "volcanic trail", is a popular boat trip coasting the island taken by night from where you can witness the volcanic eruptions, as well as the caves and rock of "Strombolicchio", surrounded by coral and populated with marine birds.
