For trekking lovers, the ascent up to the Gran Cratere (approx. 50 mins) is recommended, and allows visitors to discover the southern point of the island and enjoy one of the most beautiful views of the Aeolian group.
The path up to the crater winds up the mountain overlooking the peninsula of Vulcanello, Lipari and Salina on the left, with Alicudi and Filicudi in the distance and Panarea on the right, and the fuming Stromboli in the background.
Other than trekking, the island is an ideal destination for diving trips, where unique excursions can be taken. Diving schools operate according to national and international guidelines of diving agencies.
The island also offers a variety of entertainment, with its local nightlife and lively centre with shops and outdoor bars. Visitors can also explore the nightlife in the nearby islands with a nightly boat service to Panarea and Lipari.
Other than boat excursions to the other Aeolian Islands, visitors can hire boats and explore the numerous coves and bays of the island at their own leisure.
