The ongoing evidence of the volcanic nature of the island are what its visitors most enjoy, with its hot natural mud and underwater fumaroles, useful for thermal treatments, in particular for the treatment of rheumatoid complaints and skin irritations such as psoriasis, eczema, hives, acne and general spots.

The natural mud baths are located outdoors, close to Porto Levante, in a pool surrounded by hillsides with natural sulphur fumes and from where natural hot air blows out and is used for inhalation therapy. The continuous release of hot gases from the underwater springs along with the active centre of the volcano, ensures the mud is constantly sterilised.

Close to the natural mud pool, many visitors often enjoy swims in warm waters where hot underwater springs flow up into the sea; the area is known as “acque calde”, or “hot waters”.
