Mud of Vulcano
The Aeolian islands are known for their natural beauty, for the magical places in which to relax and gain strength from nature.
Vulcano is especially rich with the natural energy of the earth, an energy that recharges body and mind: the centuries old mud of the island of Vulcano.
Not far from the little harbour are a variety of natural mud baths that bubble up from deep within the earth. People take the baths not just to get a variety of benefits for the skin, but the entire body, from helping fight bone and respiratory weakness to simply relaxing in the warm mud.
There are three different types of mud and thermal spring water on Vulcano. The abundant Pozza dei Fanghi, or Mud Well, contains a high concentration of sulphur and plenty of bubbles release sulphuric gasses, salty water and clayey mud. The warm sea or warm water zones (there are sulphur areas in the open sea) is another place to enjoy the benefits of Vulcano’s thermal spring water. Under the surface of the water are dozens of underwater fumaroles that release vapour to create something akin to a water massage tub. The benefits can be felt immediately. Not far away you can take advantage of inhalations at the fumaroles.
